How can one convey in words the beauty of an old woman deep in prayer who speaks the language of love? The Tao Teh King translated by James Legge says: “The valley spirit dies not, aye the same; The female mystery thus do we name. Its gate, from which at first they issued forth, is called the root from which grew heaven and earth.” The passion of a woman’s soul can be as deep as the ocean. It can hide pain deep under layers of guilt and shame. It can feel deep abiding peace when nurtured and loved. She is the archetypal source from whence all great art and literature blossoms. The Goddess can’t be seen but is nevertheless as real as a flower or a sunset. For only through woman is flesh transubstantiated into spirit. We are all like Chrysalis waiting for the spring to sprout our wings and fly free. And the mystery remains.
